This happens the first time the project enters the *Completed* status, whichever sub-status you choose. If someone already entered an *Actual Completion Date*, ServiceTitan keeps that date. - If a project moves out of *Completed* and back again, the original *Actual Completion Date* stays as it was. - Projects that were completed before this behavior was released keep whatever *Actual Completion Date* they had. If the date was blank, it stays blank until someone enters it. - If your account uses the *Lock Transactions of Completed Projects* setting, the *Actual Completion Date* is written first and the lock applies afterward. For more on locked projects, see [Lock completed and canceled projects](/construction/docs/clone-lock-completed-and-canceled-projects). ## View project statuses There are several default statuses for projects. In the side panel, go to **Operations > Project Statuses**. Default project statuses include: - **Bid:** Used throughout the project's sales cycle. - **Pending Scheduling:** Used after the project's sales cycle, before jobs are booked for the project. For example, when waiting on parts or permits. - **Scheduled:** Used after jobs have been scheduled for the project. - **Canceled:** Used if the project has been canceled, or will not proceed. - **In Progress:** Used after at least one job is in progress. - **Completed:** Used when the project is complete. > [!NOTE] > **Note:** The first time a project moves into this status, ServiceTitan sets the project's *Actual Completion Date* to that date if the field is empty. A date that was already entered is kept. - **Hold:** Used if the project is paused, on hold, or delayed. ![Overview of project statuses including options to add or edit subtasks.](https://cdn.document360.io/961862ab-d0f2-4d91-bb62-a62ee8184eff/Images/Documentation/understand-project-statuses-image-mn5x42mi.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-31T00%3A41%3A41Z&se=2026-10-31T01%3A41%3A41Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=s2%2BDN2sWDhHsTXq4%2B57tD5w18QWkJApyxaMmYdOiumc%3D) You can add custom sub-statuses to each default project status to align with your project workflows.
