# Set up and use mobile storage

## Overview

Adding mobile storage locations helps you manage materials and equipment that move from truck to truck, and are occasionally replenished in a warehouse.

- Requires the [Inventory module](/v1/docs/inventory-module) to be enabled
- Once you enable mobile storage you cannot disable it

## Enable mobile storage

1. 2. 3. Click on the **Inventory** tab.
4. Check the box next to **Enable Mobile Storage**.
5. When finished, click **Save**.

## Add mobile storage

1. 2. From the side menu, select **Inventory** or **Purchasing > Inventory Locations**.
3. 4. Click **Create Mobile Storage**.
5. In the *Create a New Mobile Storage Location* screen that opens, enter the *Name*, *Default Warehouse*, and [Inventory Template](/construction/docs/create-and-edit-inventory-templates) it is associated with.
6. If you'd like to turn on auto counts, select *Create Inventory Count whenever this Mobile Storage returns to its Default Warehouse*.
7. When finished, click **Save**.

## Edit mobile storage

1. 2. From the side menu, select **Inventory** or **Purchasing > Inventory Locations**.
3. Click on the **Mobile Storage** tab.
4. 5. Update the information as you need.
6. When finished, click **Save**.

## Assign mobile storage to a truck

1. 2. From the side menu, select **Inventory Locations**.
3. Click on the **Mobile Storage** tab.
4. 5. On the dropdown that opens, make sure the selector is toggled to *Truck*. 6. If items are missing or low on stock, a warning pop-up appears. 7. If an item is used on a job and it is not available in the truck, it will be consumed from the assigned mobile storage location. Items consumed from mobile storage locations can be [replenished using transfers](/construction/docs/replenish-items-using-transfers).

## Return mobile storage to a warehouse

1. 2. From the side menu, select **Inventory Locations**.
3. Click on the **Mobile Storage** tab.
4. 6. If the warehouse selected is the default warehouse of the mobile storage location and auto counts were turned on when [adding the mobile storage location](/construction/docs/set-up-and-use-mobile-storage#add-mobile-storage), a count will be generated.

## View items and history of a mobile storage location

1. Go to the navigation bar, click on **Inventory**![](https://cdn.document360.io/961862ab-d0f2-4d91-bb62-a62ee8184eff/Images/Documentation/icon-gnav-inventory-inactive.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-31T01%3A36%3A26Z&se=2026-10-31T02%3A36%3A26Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=RU%2BG3fUGhZG2sG5WeUAO83XfBFOKuCczTjbHd4hgrgw%3D)**.**
2. From the side menu, select **Inventory Locations**.
3. Click on the **Mobile Storage** tab.
4. Find the mobile storage location you'd like to view and click on the *Mobile Storage Name*.
5. 6.
