They can be used to [add a Replacement opportunity tag to a job type](/construction/docs/manage-replacement-opportunities), set the default job duration of Recurring services, more easily find jobs in [Search](/construction/docs/use-search-in-servicetitan), customize certain report types, and filter your view of the [Schedule Board](/construction/docs/use-the-schedule-board). Job types show up on job records, invoices, and certain reports. [Add and Edit Job Types Video](https://fast.wistia.net/embed/iframe/m5kefpj9ex?web_component=true&seo=true&videoFoam=false) ## --- ### #### Who uses this feature - Administrators and office employees - Applies to all business types - Applies to all trades ## Things to know - For priority level, most job types should be set to normal. Use urgent only for job types that should always be prioritized first. If too many job types are set as high or urgent, jobs that are genuinely in need of immediate attention won’t stand out. - If you add one or more business units to a job type, when you select a business unit for a job you are booking, the job types associated with that business unit are the ones that show up under Job Types. This applies to the Call Booking screen as well as for booking recall or warranty jobs, leads, and Recurring service events. For more, see [Book a job](/construction/docs/book-a-job), [Book a recall job](/construction/docs/book-a-recall-job-from-an-existing-job), [Understand and book different types of leads](/construction/docs/leads-home), and [Manage recurring service events.](/v1/docs/manage-recurring-service-events) - The Sold threshold is the minimum amount required for the job to be considered sold or converted. For accurate reporting purposes, set the amount to at least $1 over the diagnostic or dispatch fee. If you leave it at $0, every completed job is marked converted, resulting in incorrect conversion and close rates. For more, see [What's a sold threshold?](/construction/docs/what-s-a-sold-threshold) - When creating or editing a job type, you may see the option to add default services. If your business uses a standard diagnostic fee for all jobs, you should associate services with every job type. To learn more about this feature, see [Add default services to job types](/construction/docs/set-up-default-services-for-job-types). - When creating or editing a job type, you may see the option to make selecting a Recurring Service Event required when booking jobs if Recurring Service Events exist for the location. To learn more about this feature, see [Book recurring service events on the Call Booking screen](/v1/docs/book-recurring-service-events-on-the-call-screen). - If your company manages your office's ServiceTitan account through [Enterprise Hub](/construction/docs/enterprise-hub-home), they may choose to lock job type edits. If the lock is on, you can't: - Change a job type's name - Change a job type's sold threshold - Add a job type - Deactivate a job type > [!NOTE] > **Note:** You can still edit everything else on a job type. ## Common use cases The examples below are of job types commonly used in various industries, along with the priority levels usually set for them. ## All industries | **Job Type** | **Priority** | | --- | --- | | Warranty | Low | | Inspection | Normal | | Miscellaneous | Normal | | Service Call | Normal | | Emergency Call | Urgent | | Estimate | Normal | | Call Back | Normal | ## Electrical | **Job Type** | **Priority** | | --- | --- | | Fixture Install | Normal | | Panel Upgrade | Normal | | Power Outage | Urgent | | Generator Install | Normal | | Surge Protector | Normal | | Rewire / Wiring Issue | Normal | ## Plumbing | **Job Type** | **Priority** | | --- | --- | | No Hot Water | High | | Clogged Toilet | Normal | | Fixture Install | Normal | | Pipe Leak | Normal | | Clogged Drain | Normal | | Leaky Faucet | Normal | | Water Heater | Normal | | Garbage Disposal | Normal | | Slab Leak | Normal | | Sump Pump | Normal | ## HVAC | **Job Type** | **Priority** | | --- | --- | | No Heat | High | | No AC | High | | Duct Cleaning | Low | | Filter Change | Low | | Dryer Vent Cleaning | Low | | Duct Maintenance | Low | | Leakage | Low | | Thermostat | Low | ## Add a job type 1. Mark custom fields as required so that only the custom fields specific to a job type display when booking a job. This helps reduce the mental load of CSRs and allows for more customization during the job booking process. It also helps to ensure compliance when collecting key information from the customer. To add a custom field to a job type: 1. Follow the steps to **Add** or **Edit** a job type. 2. In the *Add custom fields* section, use the dropdown menu to select the **custom fields** that this job type will use. ![User selects 'Equipment Type' checkbox in invoice customization settings interface.](https://cdn.document360.io/961862ab-d0f2-4d91-bb62-a62ee8184eff/Images/Documentation/set-up-and-use-job-types-image-d4pufsxh.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-31T00%3A42%3A47Z&se=2026-10-31T01%3A42%3A47Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=QwSFQ%2Bu530g2KtbO%2BkYIQ8%2BNGoRyoj465L0OBywNbXQ%3D) 3. (Optional) Click and drag the custom field to set the order the custom fields appear on the job booking screen. ![Custom fields for job type include age, equipment type, and gate code options.](https://cdn.document360.io/961862ab-d0f2-4d91-bb62-a62ee8184eff/Images/Documentation/set-up-and-use-job-types-image-afv3rb3j.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-31T00%3A42%3A47Z&se=2026-10-31T01%3A42%3A47Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=QwSFQ%2Bu530g2KtbO%2BkYIQ8%2BNGoRyoj465L0OBywNbXQ%3D) 4. When you’re finished, click **Save**. You can also make the custom field required for the job type. For more, see [Use custom fields](/construction/docs/use-custom-fields). ## ## FAQ --- ### #### Can appointments on the same job have different business units or job types? No. All appointments on a job share the same job type and business unit. If you need different job types or business units, create separate jobs. #### Is it possible to export a list of all active job types in ServiceTitan? For assistance with accessing this data, please [contact technical support](/construction/docs/contact-servicetitan-technical-support). #### What's a job type? Job types are general categories of work based on the customer calls you receive most. When booking a job, you can assign a common job type (for example, one or two words that best describe why your technician is visiting a customer) to identify the type of job it is, urgency factor, and the average time it takes to address the work. This helps your team know what to expect before they arrive to a job and when you're scheduling and dispatching jobs. As a best practice, we recommend keeping a manageable list of job types and using one or two words as job type names. This will make it easier for your CSRs to select the correct job type when booking a job. When you set up your business in ServiceTitan, we'll provide you with a list of the most common job types for your trades. You can edit them as you need at any time. #### Why is adding tags important, and what can I do with them? Adding tags helps you flag anything from customers, jobs, and locations, easily highlighting key items when using your ServiceTitan account to run your business. You can also add tags to identify Customer Membership types, types of equipment they have, and supplies needed for a job associated with a job for a customer. When you create tags, we recommend keeping them short and sweet. This can enhance office efficiencies by making it easier for you and your team to identify relevant tags. Tag names should be 30 characters or less. ## Want to learn more? - See [Add and manage job type groups for Adaptive Capacity](/v1/docs/add-and-manage-job-type-groups-for-adaptive-capacity) - See [Settings](/construction/docs/settings-home) When an installed equipment item reaches the replacement age of that equipment type, a replacement opportunity tag displays on jobs and the customer's service location record.
