# Run payroll reports with earnings codes

## Overview

Run payroll reports that include your payroll processor's earnings codes to streamline exporting payroll for processing.

## Things to know

- Before you run the report, [create earnings codes](/construction/docs/create-and-edit-earnings-codes) that match your payroll processor's earnings codes.
- Make sure to [assign earnings codes](/construction/docs/assign-earnings-codes) to all your pay types.

## Run payroll reports with earnings codes

You can include earnings codes in payroll reports that you can export for payroll processing.

1. Follow the steps to run a report based on the [Master Pay File report template](/construction/docs/master-pay-file-report-template).
2. 3. Select the report columns needed for exporting to your payroll processor.

> **Note:** Make sure that **Pay Code** is selected.

4. Click **Apply** and run the report.
5. A XLSX version of the report downloads to your computer that you can edit in a spreadsheet application and import to your payroll processor.
