Financials tab missing from a project

Before you start

You need permission to edit employee records and permissions in ServiceTitan (the Edit employee records permission, EditEmployee). If you don't have it, contact your admin.

What you're seeing

You open a project and expect to see a Financials tab or shortcut, but it isn't there. Other tabs on the project load normally — only the Financials tab is missing. In some cases the Financials shortcut disappears right after a ServiceTitan upgrade, and you can't see the job costing section or run progressive billing. This usually affects a specific employee or role rather than every user in the office.

Why this happens

There is 1 common reason.

Reason 1

An employee permission controls project financial visibility.

Project financial visibility is controlled by an employee permission. If the permission that shows project financials is turned off for an employee, ServiceTitan hides the Financials tab for that user. In some cases the tab disappears after an upgrade because the employee's permission setting changed.

How to fix it

Run these checks in order. Most issues are resolved by Check 1.

1Turn on the permission that shows project financials

  1. Open the project you want to view.

  2. Check whether the Financials tab is visible. If it isn't, continue to the next step.

  3. Go to Settings > Employees, find the employee, then click Edit > Permissions.

  4. Search for the Show financials permission and make sure it is checked.

  5. Click Save.

  6. Go back to the project and check whether the Financials tab is now visible. You may need to refresh the page to see it.

✓ Done · The Financials tab now appears on the project for that employee.

2If the tab went missing after an upgrade, check the same permission

Use this if the Financials shortcut disappeared right after an upgrade and job costing and progressive billing are also blocked.

Note: Some customers describe this permission as a Hide Financials setting, especially after an upgrade removed the Financials shortcut and blocked job costing and progressive billing.

  1. Open the project you want to view.

  2. Check whether the Financials tab is visible. If it isn't, continue to the next step.

  3. Go to Settings > Employees, find the employee, then click Edit > Permissions.

  4. Search for the Hide Financials permission and make sure it is unchecked.

  5. Click Save.

  6. Go back to the project and check whether the Financials tab is now visible. You may need to refresh the page to see it.

✓ Done · The Financials tab and shortcut reappear, and you can access job costing and progressive billing again.
