# How can I collect a deposit on an estimate in ServiceTitan?

## Problem

Customers need to pay a deposit for an estimate, but you're unsure how to request it without creating an invoice first.

## Solution

You should be able to send an estimate-related deposit request to the customer.

### Send a deposit request to the customer

1. Go to the estimate screen for the job you're working on.
2. If the estimate is *Open*, click **Sold/Convert**.
3. Select a name from the *Who sold this estimate?* dropdown, and click **Apply**.
4. Click **Actions**.
5. Select **Collect and Apply Payment** from the the dropdown.
6. Enter the amount you want to collect as a deposit. Use your account’s default deposit percentage, if one is set, or the amount agreed with the customer.
7. Confirm the payment details.
8. Keep the *Apply to Customer Profile* option selected. This amount gets credited to the customer's profile.
9. [Convert the estimate to a booked job](/construction/docs/sell-estimates-in-servicetitan#convert-and-sell-estimate). This is when you create the actual job from the estimate.
10. [Apply the previously collected deposit to the invoice](/construction/docs/apply-credit-or-payment-to-an-invoice). This shows the deposit and the remaining amount the customer owes.
11. Email the invoice to the customer. Make sure it reflects the deposit and the balance due.

> **Note:** If the estimate was being sold in the field, you could collect the deposit directly from the customer right away.

> **Tip:** If you sent the estimate as an online estimate and it’s sold but the deposit hasn’t been paid, you can resend it from the Email Estimate screen so your customer can pay the deposit online.
