# Create a line item estimate

## Overview

Line item estimates allow you to create an estimate with the exact services you are selling, as well as the materials and equipment that are consumed when performing the work.

- Any business using project management
- Anybody who runs and uses projects in ServiceTitan

## Things to know

- You can use exactly what materials or equipment you have in your pricebook to create the estimate.
- You can book the Sold estimate into install jobs.
- If you are using the Purchasing module, you can create a purchase order directly from the estimate using the [Requisitions feature](/construction/docs/requisition-items-for-a-job-or-project) and invoice closeout.

## Line item estimate workflow

To use the line item estimate method, you need to:

- Know what services, materials, and equipment you will be using/consuming on the project.
- Have the services, materials, and equipment needed in your current pricebook.

Create your estimate and then build out your estimate with the exact line items you need for the project. If you have set up your default project labels correctly, your budget will automatically populate according to your label setup.

A sales tech sells an estimate. -or- A service, maintenance, or install tech sells an estimate. -or- A CSR sells an estimate over the phone. Let's say the estimate total is below the sold threshold (the customer wants to schedule the work, but hasn't fully decided).
